Barcelona vs Liverpool Predictions, Score, Team News

Barcelona vs Liverpool will take place tonight at 21:00 (GMT +1) at the magnificent Camp Nou. The first leg of the Champions League will be met with a lot of anticipation by both sides as they look to make an advantage before the return leg at Anfield on the 7th of May.

Last time out Ernesto Valverde’s men easily took care of another English club, Manchester United in a total aggregate score of 4-0 in favor of the Catalan giants. But this time, they face an opponent far more superior than Manchester United. Barcelona is the favorites for the entire competition, but they face an in-form opponent on Wednesday night.

Barcelona comes into this match having won the La Liga title a few days ago against Levante. It was their 26th La Liga title and they are now 9 titles behind Real Madrid.
Barcelona hasn’t lost a game in their previous 22 games; last defeat comes from Sevilla in January. They are in fine form with Lionel Messi has scored 46 goals in all competition so far.

Liverpool, on the other hand, is in excellent form as well. They are currently 1 point behind league leaders Manchester City with 2 games to go. The Reds haven’t seen a defeat since the 7th of January against Wolves. Since then they’ve not lost a match in their last 19 games. They also are on a 10 game winning streak in all competitions with Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firminho in fine form.

Barcelona vs Liverpool Team News

For the hosts, there aren’t many key players out with possibly Kevin-Prince Boateng being the only notable absent player from the squad. Barcelona is predicted to field a very strong XI in order to seal a victory before the return leg.

Liverpool, on the other hand, is missing only rotational player Adam Lallana and Red’s fans should rejoice after it was reported that Roberto Firminho would miss out on the match due to a muscle injury. Red’s boss Jurgen Klopp confirmed that the Brazilian trained yesterday and he will be included in the starting XI.

Barcelona vs Liverpool XI:

Barcelona XI: Ter Stegen; Roberto, Pique, Langlet, Alba; Rakitic, Busquets, Arthur; Messi, Suarez, Coutinho

Liverpool XI: Alisson; Gomez, Matip, Van Dijk, Robertson; Fabinho, Henderson, Wijnaldum; Salah, Firminho, Mane

Barcelona vs Liverpool Prediction

This game is going to be huge and it is a shame that it is only a semi-final tie. In this game, the world’s best player will face the PFA player of the year and world’s most in-form center back Virgil Van Dijk. A return for Suarez and Countiho against their former club should be more than enough to get them going in this game, with Coutinho having a point to prove.

It will be hard for Liverpool to keep Messi in check, and it will be hard for Barcelona to keep the Red’s attacking trio at bay. It is going to be a nail biter this one, with both sides looking to make a difference between the return leg.

We predict Barcelona to have most of the possession in this game and Liverpool to take a more conservative approach by counter-attacking whenever they can. Everyone knows how good Liverpool’s counter-attack is so Barcelona should be aware of the threat of Mane and Salah as well as the setting up ability of Roberto Firminho.

We don’t think Liverpool can keep a clean sheet in this one, but we also believe that Barcelona is prone to conceding goals. It will be a cracking match for the neutral and an even better one for eighter sets of fans.

Barcelona vs Liverpool Score Prediction: 2-2
Barcelona vs Liverpool Scorers Prediction: Messi x2, Mane, Firminho.
